Mequon is located on the beautiful western shore of Lake Michigan, situated just north of Milwaukee. The city boasts majestic bluffs, lush farmland, the winding Milwaukee River and expansive open space covering nearly fifty square miles. The community offers twenty scenic recreational parks, including an extensive Nature Preserve and some of the finest golf in the area with its three country clubs and a public course. The Ozaukee Interurban Trail begins in Mequon. Bike or hike this 30-mile recreational trail that runs through all of Ozaukee County.
In addition to the outdoor fun, Mequon also features exceptional dining and shopping venues. The city offers numerous upscale shopping plazas with specialty shops, boutiques, galleries, spas and salons.
Visitors can enjoy one of the many festivities that are offered throughout the year. The annual Winter Frolic festival is held every February at the Mequon Nature Preserve. Participants will enjoy an array of outdoor activities such as sleigh rides, snow shoeing, ice fishing, chainsaw carvings and bonfires. Pommerntag, an outdoor German festival, takes place on the last weekend of June in Mequon City Park and features ethnic food, displays, entertainment and cultural events. In July Gathering on the Green holds premier outdoor performances along with additional activities at Rotary Park. In September, visitors and community members alike can enjoy Taste of Mequon, a concert and festival that highlight area restaurants.
Two historic attractions reflect the value Mequon places on preserving the stories of the settlers of Mequon and Thiensville. The Jonathan Clark House Museum is a Greek-Revival style house constructed in 1848, built with fieldstone and a limestone front. Jonathan Clark migrated to the area in 1839. The Isham Day House, also known as Yankee Settlers Cottage, is a historic residence that was completed in 1839. It was the local post office. It’s located at Settler’s Park and features a walking trail and access to the river.
Come and explore the unique historical sites, nature, riverwalks, lake shores and exceptional shops and restaurants. Mequon has something for everyone to enjoy.
